The new head of a Canadian life insurance leader focused on advisor screening, contracting, and compliance has pulling together a long-term strategy for the company’s compliance efforts – in the process offering tips for other players.
Tonya Blackmore, the former vice president, IT and operations of Pacific Life Reinsurance, is helping pull together the long term strategy for the company as the new CEO of APEXA Corp.
“It’s a very exciting time to join as we approach the final stretch to implementation,” said Blackmore. “APEXA is the perfect example of a collaboration between business and industry, that will transform contracting and compliance for the Canadian Life Insurance Industry. It is a privilege to be part of this innovative team.”
Blackmore will focus on setting a long-term strategy beyond initial implementation, continue to grow APEXA’s service, and ensure the service continues to add to the industry as it continues to evolve.
“Since 2012, I’ve been working very closely with the founding partners of APEXA to bring this compliance solution to life. As we near the stages of implementation, it is evident that APEXA requires a focused and highly executional leader,” said Chris Murumets, co-founder of LOGiQ3, when Blackmore was tapped for the job back in June. “I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Tonya through several client engagements at LOGiQ3 and have been impressed by her experience, confidence, and capabilities. She is extremely well regarded in the life insurance arena, and we are honoured to have her join our family.”
Murumets – who had previously assumed the mid-term role of CEO at APEXA – will continue to stay involved in pertinent areas surrounding the contractual and regulatory areas as they pertain to the service offering.
Blackmore’s pedigree in the life insurance and reinsurance industry stretches back 15 years, starting her career with an MGA office in her home province of Nova Scotia. This was followed by various leadership roles with Maritime Life and Manulife in the areas of client services, policy changes, disbursements, claims and title changes.
In 2006, Tonya joined the Manulife Reinsurance division as Director, Customer Management and subsequently was promoted to AVP, Operations for Life Reinsurance. In this capacity she was responsible for the strategic oversight of operations including process efficiency, risk management, project leadership and staff performance and engagement.
After being acquired by Pacific Life Reinsurance in 2011, Blackmore was promoted to Vice President, IT and Operations where her role was expanded to include oversight for application development, infrastructure and IT Projects. She was also charged with leading the integration effort which included facilities design and relocation, integrating financial and accounting processes and completing the IT migration from Manulife to Pacific Life.
