Nine months behind bars after guilty plea to allegations dating back to 2012
Nine months in a cell awaits one New Brunswick native after he admitted guilt in committing life insurance fraud.
Stephane Valcourt, 44, received the sentence of nine months in prison with an additional two-year probation period, at Edmunston Provincial Court, after pleading guilty to charges of both forgery and fraud that related back to incidents beginning from 2012.
Allegations were made to the Financial Crime Unit at New Brunswick RCMP back in December, 2014. It was alleged that from January 2012-December 2014, Valcourt had managed to defraud 10 victims by convincing them to sign up for supposed life insurance policies – only to then keep the payments they made on their premiums. In addition, he is also alleged to have forged a series of documents.
