A wealth manager bets on a winning formula

In the wealth management space, growth usually depends on a company’s ability to attract talent that can build a strong team and maintain lasting relationships with clients. White LeBlanc Wealth Planners (WLWP, iA Private Wealth) has applied this principle since it was founded by Colin White and Dan LeBlanc in 2013. Having evolved over the years, WLWP now provides a wide range of services, including individual, business, retirement, estate, and insurance planning, as well as portfolio management to guide customers through the right investment track and help them understand risks.

Due to their recent accomplishments, White has been recognized as a Wealth Professional 5-Star Advisor, while Josh Sheluk, partner and portfolio manager, has received a Rising Star accolade. They spoke with WP’s James Burton about their strategy in managing their team and client relationships.

What differentiates WLWP from its competitors, White said, is a structure “where no staff member is on a commission or owns a client or book of business, so it allows us to work in a collaborative approach in every situation without any barriers. And it also attracts a group of people who like working in that kind of environment”.

He takes pride in the company’s clear vision as well as its ability to attract like-minded people who work enthusiastically toward a shared purpose.

Sheluk added that the company’s ultimate objective is client satisfaction and delivering positive results. He defined success as more than just getting clients to achieve a particular outcome, but “making them feel at peace with the progress, the path towards that outcome,” and knowing that they are meeting their financial goals.

What motivated him to join the WLWP team, Sheluk said, is not only knowing that it’s the right fit, but wanting to change the situation where people experience adverse financial outcomes. “We’ve put a bunch of what we think are smart people in the room with that same goal in mind, and that’s what [got us] here today.”
