Advisor wins the ultimate client endorsement

One of pro ball's biggest stars is speaking out about his financial planner with the kind of endorsement most advisors can only dream of.

One of pro ball's biggest stars is speaking out about his financial planner with the kind of endorsement most advisors can only dream of.

"Raymond James. I'm [at] Raymond James," NBA great Charles Barkley said from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, this week."My guy's name is Glenn Guthrie. I've been with him for 27 years and I trust him with my life."

Advisors stateside already have a pool going about just how much new business Guthrie, based in Alabama, will see as a direct result of what appears to be an unsolicited and sincere endorsement.

That kind of accolade is increasingly hard to win from celebrity and, even, retail clients, in the wake of high-profile cases of alleged gross mismanagment or misappropriation of funds.

While similar stats for the NHL aren't readily available, research suggests as many as 60% of NBA players go bankrupt within five years of retirement.

Barkley's investment success stands in stark contrast to that -- success he's now chalking up to the counsel of his advisor.
