Bank makes $1 million donation

Contribution will be music to the ears of national centre

Banks don’t always have the best reputation for helping out in the community, but one leading institution is aiming to buck the trend with a major contribution.

According to a report in the Calgary Herald, the National Bank of Canada has donated $1 million to assist the National Music Centre in developing its new home, known as Studio Bell. Its donation will be used towards a gallery that will be placed on the facility’s fifth floor and will be dedicated to celebrating music and honouring Canadian industry leaders.

In a statement, Meghan Meger, the president of Private Banking 1859 – Western Canada at National Bank of Canada, outlined how the gallery space will be used to showcase installations, including items that are on loan from other museums worldwide.

“Our investment in the National Music Centre represents our commitment to the communities we serve, and commemorates the arrival in Calgary of National Bank’s Private Banking 1859 and its unequalled delivery of wealth management services,” she said.

“We are proud to support an organization that uses music to explore and inspire our nation. We look forward to the opportunities that Studio Bell will bring both to Alberta, and also Canada.”

Studio Bell has cost a total of $191 million to develop and is set to open in the summer. However, there will be a sneak peek offered for a pair of events as part of the Juno Week celebration.
