Budget watchdog warning on income-splitting

The government’s income-splitting plan, allowing a high earner to transfer some of their income to a lower-earning spouse will cut $2.2 billion from revenues while doing nothing for low income families.

The government’s income-splitting plan, allowing a high earner to transfer some of their income to a lower-earning spouse will cut $2.2 billion from revenues while doing nothing for low income families. That’s the conclusion of the Parliamentary Budget Officer which reports that only about 15 per cent of Canadian families will benefit and they aren’t the ones who need it.
