Alberta’s premier has called for the pipeline projects that are proving divisive to go ahead. Jim Prentice told business leaders that the pipelines are Canada’s economic future and to not build them would result in pain for the whole country. Prentice said that by the end of the decade the current pipelines will have reached capacity meaning that oil would have to be sold at heavy discounts which would harm government revenues. He also noted the environmental concerns and said that Alberta shares the concerns but highlighted the economic benefits for other provinces that come with the proposed routes.
