Producers of heavy oil are heading into a price war over supply to refineries on the US Gulf Coast. In January supply of Canadian heavy crude to the refineries will almost double thanks to the Seaway Twin pipeline but the Mexican and South American producers who have been supplying them will fight hard to protect their market. It may see Canadian heavy crude being re-exported to Europe and Asia.
