StatsCan reported the January figures for the Canadian labour force today showing that an extra 35,000 people are now working and that unemployment has fallen to 6.6 per cent; 0.1 per cent lower than in December.
StatsCan reported the January figures for the Canadian labour force today showing that an extra 35,000 people are now working and that unemployment has fallen to 6.6 per cent; 0.1 per cent lower than in December. In the 12 month period to January there was a 0.7 per cent rise in jobs with the second half of the period showing the best growth. For January it was part-time jobs and women over 55 that gained the most. Natural resources jobs declined while professional, scientific and professional services led the gains and there was an increase in self-employment. Provincially, employment rose in Quebec, Alberta, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island in January. At the same time, there was a decline in Saskatchewan.
