CI Financial Corp names Sarah Ward to board

CI Financial has announced Sarah Ward to its board of directors. In a recent announcement, CI stated that Ward will take on her new role immediately.

As a corporate finance lawyer with more than 35 years of experience, Ward has worked for some of the world's top corporations. She recently left Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom where she was a partner in the firm's Banking Group and co-chair of the firm's Legal Opinion Oversight Committee.

She was also a member of the firm's Policy Committee and, from 2009 to 2014, the worldwide co-head of the Banking Group. The clients she worked with included public enterprises, private equity firms, and financial institutions.

Ward graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Doctor of Law from Fordham University School of Law.

Chairman of the Board William T. Holland stated, “We are pleased to welcome Sarah to the CI Board. As a globally recognized leader in business law with more than three decades of experience serving leading financial institutions, she will make a strong contribution to our Board and to CI.”

“Her experience is especially relevant as CI’s largest business is now U.S. wealth management,” Holland added.

“Sarah’s leadership experience and her deep expertise in corporate financing and mergers and acquisitions will be especially valuable to CI and complements the specializations and expertise of our other Board members,” David P. Miller, Director and Chair of the Governance, Human Resources and Compensation Committee, said.

Meanwhile, Director Sheila Murray also told the Board that she will not seek re-election at the Annual Meeting of Shareholders this year.

Murray has been a Director since 2018, and from 2016 to 2019, she was the President of CI. She has previously served as Executive Vice-President, General Counsel, and Secretary of the company. She received the Canadian General Counsel Award for Business Achievement as President.

She came to CI after 25 years as a securities lawyer at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP.
