The Canadian Pension Plan has joined with private equity firm Permira for the purchase of data company Informatica. The U$5.3 billion deal values the US firm at 10 per cent above its share price at close of trade on Monday and the new owners will take it private. Canada’s national pension fund has a large amount of available funds that are not currently needed for pension payments and has significant assets; a situation that enables it to make the acquisition at low risk.
