Industry veteran has joined the firm in an advisory role
A former managing director and chief investment officer of alternative investments at TD Asset Management is joining Hazelview Investments as executive chairman.
Ted Welter has 35 years of investment industry experience and his role at the Toronto-based firm will be an advisory one, leveraging his expertise in alternative investments. With more than $12 billion of real estate assets under management, Welter’s knowledge of these assets along with portfolio management and business development will be in demand.
Hazelview sees improvement for REITs in the months ahead, following some challenging times. The firm’s 2024 outlook says that resilient corporate earnings for REITs and low real estate supply will combine to produce better results despite slower economic growth.
At TDAM (formerly Greystone Managed Investments), Welter led the alternative investments team to a significant increase in AUM, from $200 million to $34 billion.
"I am enthusiastic about joining the Hazelview team," he said. "The team is deeply committed to delivering compelling real estate solutions for investors, and I see immense opportunity on the horizon. I am looking forward to helping the firm continue to expand and grow its real estate platform, and to building upon its numerous accomplishments, together."
Welter will lead the firm’s new advisory committee as well as providing strategic counsel to the executive team and managing partner and CEO Ugo Bizzarri.
"Ted's extensive expertise, strategic thinking, and proven ability to drive ambitious outcomes will help guide Hazelview as we continue to grow,” said Bizzarri. “He shares a passion for fostering a strong culture and is aligned with our commitment to creating value for both people and places. I am confident his experience and perspective will benefit the future of Hazelview."
