Its annual food prices report predicts that vegetables, meat and fish will be 3-5 per cent more expensive with fruit and nuts up 1-3 per cent. Dairy, eggs and grains could be slightly cheaper or slightly more expensive. A weaker loonie is making imported food more expensive and at the same time crops are being hit by worse weather. The Food Institute’s predictions for this year proved slightly under the actual increases.
