High profile investment firm VP to run as Progressive Conservative candidate
Caroline Mulroney has been confirmed as the Progressive Conservative candidate for the Ontario riding of York-Simcoe.
The BloombergSen Investment Partners vice-president accepted the nomination Sunday and used her acceptance speech to condemn the provincial Liberal government’s minimum wage hike policy.
Mulroney also thanked her parents – her dad is former prime minister Brian Mulroney – for teaching her the value of public service.
“I believe that Ontario finds itself at a crossroads,” Caroline Mulroney said in a statement last month. “This election is about offering a positive vision for Ontario – one that respects taxpayers’ money and delivers economic growth and well-paying jobs to the province.”
Montreal-born Mulroney’s current role at BloombergSen focuses on client services, marketing and business development. She previously spearheaded corporate and regulatory matters at Toronto-based venture debt fund Wellington Financial.
BloombergSen manages over $1 billion in assets and the firm says that its principals – which include Mulroney – have “a vast majority of their personal net worth invested alongside its clients.”
Mulroney’s varied career also includes time served as an associate at law firm Shearman & Stirling and after gaining her degree at Harvard she was a financial analyst in the investment banking department of Bear Stearns & Co.
She also founded the Shoebox Project for Shelters, helping women who are homeless or at risk.
The provincial election takes place in June 2018.
