Financial firm donates generous amount to give back and encourage
The DUCA Financial Services Credit Union Ltd. has donated $25,000 to the Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC).
DUCA has 15 branches across Ontario and provides financial products to clients as well as offering them a system of fairtrade banking. This is where DUCA provides the basic financial needs while also addressing clients’ desires to be social responsible and to make a difference in communities. DUCA says they are ‘building a model for Canadians who care about their world and their communities and who want simple and fair community banking.’
As a part of this central value, the company has donated a significant amount to the CCFC. The children’s charity is holding an online contest to identify an international project that will receive the $25,000 donation.
Richard Senechal, president and chief executive officer of DUCA, said: "This is a way to engage people in two important endeavours: One is DUCA's practice of 'Fair Trade Banking' whereby we prioritize supporting people and communities worldwide and the other is the CCFC's important work of improving families and communities through innovative and sustainable solutions."
The CCFC is a child-centered and international sustainable development organization. This is the third year the charity has held a voting contest to determine which project should receive the funds.
This year the theme of the contest is that of Innovation in Early Childhood Education. As a result, the four finalist projects look at ways of improving lives of children in countries such as Nicaragua, India, Ethiopia and Paraguay.
Mark Lukowski, chief executive officer of the Christian Children's Fund of Canada, said: "I am sincerely grateful to DUCA for this significant investment in the healthy brain development of children, which will help them thrive."
DUCA also puts a minimum of 3.5% of the company’s pre-tax profit towards donations and community sponsorships each year as well as having a system in place to award various grants and scholarships to a variety of non-profit organisations.
