Sentiment slips as Dow fails to hit 20k
Investors were hoping to see the Dow above 20,000 this week but Monday’s slip for the index has rattled sentiment.

Asian markets closed mostly lower Tuesday with a stronger yen adding to the challenges for the region’s equities. Hong Kong fared better with the Hang Seng closing higher.

China’s consumer price index failed to hit the expected mark while producer prices exceeded analysts’ forecasts.

Meanwhile in Europe, Italian banks continue to cause concern and most bourses are trending lower. British supermarkets saw gains as strong Christmas sale data boosted their value and the FTSE100 in London is trending higher.

Wall Street and Toronto are expected to open lower. Canadian construction data is due.

Valeant Pharmaceutical will sell its CerAve, AcneFree and Ambi brands to Paris firm L’Oreal as part of an asset sale to pay down debt. The $1.3 billion deal announced Tuesday is expected to close in the first quarter.

Valeant is also selling its Dendreon business unit to a Chinese conglomerate. SanPower Group will pay around $820 million, Bloomberg reports.
