Seasoned investment pro to develop wealth management activities and identify new growth opportunities
After several months of searching, National Bank has found the next person to lead its wealth business.
Effective November 1, Nancy Paquet will step up as the Big Six bank’s EVP, Wealth Management. In that capacity, she will be responsible for all activities pertaining to the wealth management business including full-service securities brokerage, investment product manufacturing and distribution, self-directed brokerage solutions, third-party clearing services, and trust services.
She will be reporting directly to president and CEO Laurent Fereira as she is welcomed into the bank’s senior leadership team.
In January this year, National Bank announced Martin Gagnon would be retiring from his roles as EVP, Wealth Management and co-President and co-CEO on April 1. His tenure with the Big Six bank began in 1987.
Denis Gerouard, EVP and co-Head, Financial Markets, was announced as the interim leader of the Wealth Management division until Girourard’s successor is named.
‘A proven leader with a solid track record’
In a statement announcing the news, Fereira praised Paquet’s “growth mindset, engaging leadership and her ability to forge strong internal and external partnerships.
“Nancy is a proven leader with a solid track record of success. … [S]he has been instrumental in the transformation and modernization of all the sectors she has led,” he said. “As a seasoned investment professional with a strategic vision of the industry, she has played an active role in ensuring that the client's interests are at the heart of the industry's policies.”
Paquet began her tenure with National Bank in 2007 as regional vice president, Sales. Her leadership journey through the bank includes stints as president of National Bank Direct Brokerage and senior vice president, Strategy Investment and Savings, Retail Banking.
Currently, she is the senior vice-president of Personal Banking, where she’s responsible for the bank’s whole retail distribution network, its Exclusive Remote Advisory Service, Natbank in Florida, and the Canadian consumer financing network.
“Throughout her career, Nancy has helped successfully advance the Bank's investment strategy by making advice central to our positioning,” Fereira said. “She is ideally suited to lead our differentiated Wealth Management franchise, a key pillar in our strategy to accelerate our growth.”
