New Cambridge CIO and fund announced

The investment firm is experiencing major changes with the reopening of a long-closed growth fund and management shifts within the Cambridge Global Asset Management group

In a July 20 release, CI Investments announced that it is reopening its Cambridge Canadian Growth Companies Fund. The same release announced the appointment of Brandon Snow as Cambridge’s new Chief Investment Officer.

With larger investment team, growth fund is ready for new investors
The Cambridge Canadian Growth Companies Fund, which invests primarily in growth-oriented Canadian small- and mid-cap firms, has performed strongly since its February 2011 inception. It was closed to new investors in March 2014 after experiencing significant asset growth. The fund currently has assets under management of $450m; up to 49% of its portfolio may be invested in foreign securities.

Over the past two years, the Cambridge investment team has doubled in size while extending its range of research in US and international industry sectors. "The Cambridge team is well equipped to manage a much larger portfolio of small and mid-cap companies while maintaining the disciplined investment approach and stock selection process that has led to such exceptional performance," noted CI President Derek J. Green.

The lead portfolio manager of the Cambridge Canadian Growth Companies Fund is Greg Dean, who was co-winner of the 2015 Morningstar Award for Breakout Fund Manager of the Year. Mr. Dean also works as Lead Portfolio Manager of Cambridge Growth Companies Corporate Class and Co-Lead Portfolio Manager of Cambridge Pure Canadian Equity Fund.

Cambridge appoints new CIO
Until recently, Snow was co-CIO of Cambridge Global Asset Management, a role he shared with investment industry veteran Alan Radlo. However, following a decision that took effect on July 20, Snow is now CIO of the group.

"After 33 tireless years in the business, Alan is stepping back from the co-CIO role.  The Cambridge team and our investors will continue to benefit from his extensive investment knowledge and passion for the industry," declared Snow.

Radlo is staying on as Senior Portfolio Manager and Principal with Cambridge, focusing his portfolio management efforts on the international equity portfolios within the Cambridge lineup. He has relinquished his duties as co-portfolio manager of Cambridge Global Equity Corporate Class, for which Snow now serves as lead portfolio manager.

The other members of the Cambridge team who will be working with Snow are Chief Market Strategist and Lead Portfolio Manager Robert Swanson; Lead Portfolio Manager Greg Dean; and Lead Portfolio Manager Stephen Groff.

Since 2008, 37 awards for quality and category-leading risk-adjusted performance have been given to funds managed by Cambridge. Today, the Cambridge team manages over $15 billion in a diverse suite of Canadian and global equity, balanced and income funds from offices in Toronto and Boston.
