Canada is technically in a recession as figures released Tuesday by StatsCan showed a 0.5 per cent decline in GDP for the second quarter, following a (revised) 0.8 per cent drop in the first. However the economy grew by 0.5 per cent in June which suggests a strong start to the second half of the year with experts including the National Bank’s Stefane Marion and CIBC’s Avery Shenfeld saying that the worst may be behind us.
