It’s long been called for and now the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation has issued data showing the level of foreign investor ownership in condos. Contrary to popular belief the agency says that the figure for Toronto; where foreign investment is most prolific; is only 2.4 per cent. Toronto has the highest level so in Vancouver the figure is 2.3 per cent and in Calgary it’s just 0.2 per cent. It should be noted that downtown shows a higher percentage of foreign investor ownership but the figures are still modest compared to those predicted by the many who believe that foreign investors are responsible for the sky-high prices in some of our major cities.
