The federal government managed a $5 billion surplus in the first quarter of the fiscal year, starting in April. June added $1.1 billion to the pot and overall the surplus is up from the $424 million surplus from the same period in 2014. The $5 billion includes the $1.8 billion it got from selling its GM shares in April.
