As a respected author outside the industry this finance professor offers a different perspective.
Sean Cleary has literally written the book on finance in Canada.
The BMO Professor of Finance at Queen’s University School of Business is the co-author of the first three editions of Introduction to Corporate Finance and is the Canadian author of the first three editions of the textbook, Investments: Analysis and Management. He’s also the sole author of The Canadian Securities Exam Fast Track Study Guide.
As a professor removed from the industry, Cleary will hold no bias when judging the 2015 WP Awards.
“It’s something I’m interested in,” said Cleary. “The fact that I can be objective, that’s something valuable.”
No judging panel would be complete without the perspective of academia and Cleary along with Chris Polson, vice president of global advisory firm Duff & Phelps Ltd., Robbie Wildman a retired advisor and past president of Advocis, Greg Pollock, president of Advocis and Ellen Bessner, a partner with Babin Bessner Spry LLP will determine this year’s WP Award winners.
Cleary holds a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Toronto, as well as an MBA and is a CFA charterholder, and is a former member of the Board of Directors for the CFA Society Toronto and the CFA Society Atlantic Canada (where he served as President).
Cleary has published numerous research articles in various journals including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Management, the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Financial Research, etc., with his publications having been cited over 1,700 times.
He has received several major research grants totaling over $700,000.
He is an Associate Editor for two finance journals and regularly serves as a reviewer for many of the top finance journals.
Sean serves regularly as an expert financial consultant, and frequently appears in the media on television, on the radio and in the newspapers.
