Royal Bank of Canada has made a donation to the Italian Red Cross to support relief efforts following a devastating earthquake
Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has announced a $50,000 contribution to the Italian Red Cross, backing relief and humanitarian efforts to help those affected by an earthquake in Italy. The bank has requested for its donation to be allocated to where it is most required, hoping that it can ease the plight of communities and people who remain in dire need.
“As the full scale of the disaster emerges, our deepest sympathies are with all those who have been touched by this tragedy,” said Harry Samuel, CEO of RBC Investor & Treasury Services, which has been operating in Italy for 15 years. “We have a long-standing tradition of helping communities in need, and on behalf of our clients and employees, we are proud to support the Italian Red Cross and its rescue workers in their tireless aid and recovery efforts.”
Italy suffered a massive 6.2-magnitude earthquake on Aug. 24, which decimated towns in central Italy. The quake was followed by more than 3,000 aftershocks and occasional heavy rains that made rescue efforts difficult. Since then, the death toll has reached 295, and around 400 are reported to be injured.
