A poll of analysts by Reuters suggests that the BoC will not increase interest rates until 2017 at the earliest. The experts believe there is a 40 per cent chance of a further cut in the overnight rate. They say there is a 55 per cent chance of a rise, but not this year or next. With most expecting the economy to rebound in the second half of this year from the technical recession of the first half, and the US expected to increase its interest rates in the coming months, the outlook is for Canada to not opt for any changes to interest rates in the short to medium term.
