Once again, Wealth Professional is proud to reveal its Top 40 under 40 Rising Stars for 2023.
In an industry that requires professionalism, emotional intelligence, technical expertise, and perpetual motivation, these 40 individuals have demonstrated they have what it takes to stand apart from the pack.
Confirming a trend from past years, the advisors and investment professionals gracing the 2023 edition of Wealth Professional’s Top 40 under 40 Rising Stars show that in the business of financial stewardship, technical chops will get you through the door, but to succeed takes something more.
“How you work with a client, how you interact, how you build a plan, and how emotions resonate with people – those are all things I learned by being able to see a few key mentors in action who I worked with very closely early on,” says Evan Inglis, Executive Financial Consultant at IG in Calgary.
Working with a client-first mindset is the central piece of the puzzle. But for many of this year’s Rising Stars, being on top of the game means staying a step ahead of the competition. For some like Andrew Labbad, that means literally introducing an element of play in the day-to-day work of wealth building.
“I live and breathe finance, and investing is very similar to a treasure hunt,” says Labbad, senior portfolio manager at Wealhouse Capital Management. “I’m trying to decipher puzzles and find diamonds in the rough before everyone else.”
This year’s Rising Stars also recognize that improving their investment and financial planning skills is not just about ticking off a continuous education checkbox, or the prestige of being on the cutting edge of industry trends. Rather, what runs through their veins is a desire to give clients the best possible chance at achieving their financial objectives and dreams.
As Darren Ryan, financial planner at Ryco Financial puts it: “I truly believe everybody deserves access to the best unbiased financial advice, and part of that involves me growing continuously to be better than I was yesterday. … I continuously research the next best offering for clients, whether it’s investments, annuities, insurance, employee benefits, and continuous education.”
