After the news that Mexx stores will be closing next month there was more bad news for retail today. Target Canada is closing its 133 stores with the loss of more than 17,000 jobs. With operating losses of more than US $2 billion in the last two years and a forecast that it would take until around 2020 to make a profit the firm has decided to quit now. Speculation surrounds the possible contenders for the retail space that will be left empty by the closures with Wal-Mart Canada one of the possibilities.
