The second and third largest tobacco companies in the US are in merger talks which could see them challenge the dominance of Philip Morris owner the Altria Group. Reynolds, known for Camel and Pall Mall; and Lorillard, makers of Newport and Maverick, say that no deal has been done and may not be. The firms are also in talks with Imperial Tobacco PLC of the UK; a merged business would most likely be required to offload some of its brands due to competition issues. Read the full story.
