Investor confidence is rising but there are significant challenges ahead that require professional guidance
Investors globally are feeling more optimistic in the years ahead but are well aware that there are challenges to come.
A new global survey of investors and business owners by UBS has found that investor sentiment has been boosted by vaccine roll-outs and potential impact of the US election. Most have a positive outlook for the economy over the next 12 months.
However, few expect things to return to normal until the second half of 2021.
The poll also confirmed the strong move towards sustainable investing with more than half of global respondents planning to increase their allocations and 29% now expecting these investments to perform on a par with their traditional allocations.
“Three years ago we had around USD 1 billion invested in our 100% sustainable portfolio for private clients,” commented Iqbal Khan, co-president of UBS Global Wealth Management. “Today that figure is over US$18 billion. We believe sustainable investing offers significant value for clients and for the world.”
Advice is essential
The survey also revealed that, with challenges ahead, investors and business owners are keen to get professional guidance.
“We are encouraged that confidence among investors and business owners is rising globally, despite uncertainty over COVID-19 and political issues,” said Tom Naratil, president of UBS Americas and co-president of UBS Global Wealth Management. “The decade ahead will present new opportunities, while geopolitical, economic and social challenges will remain. It is no surprise to see that eight in 10 investors tell us they need expert advice more than ever.”
