US poultry manufacturer cuts human antibiotics from chickens

Tyson, the largest producer of poultry in the US plans to eliminate the use of human antibiotics from its flocks by September 2017.

Tyson, the largest producer of poultry in the US plans to eliminate the use of human antibiotics from its flocks by September 2017. It is also looking at reducing or eliminating some drug programs used in its other meat production. The move is in response to concern that antibiotics used in meat production could be leading to drug-resistant bugs in humans and the announcement by McDonald’s that it is cutting the use of meat that has been treated with human antibiotics in the next two years.
