Wealth Professional spoke to the CEO of Admin Slayer and Spring Plans about the theme for this year's International Women's Day
Julia Chung, CEO of Admin Slayer and Spring Plans, loves this year’s International Women’s Day #BalanceforBetter for a few reasons.
“First, it's not about ‘work-life balance’ which seems to be some kind of lady-only concern... for some reason. Second, it refutes the idea that feminism is about anything other than equality,” she said.
Chung also supports the concept of #balanceforbetter because it has relevance for organizational behaviour, including boardrooms, government, media, staffing and wealth.
“Balance for better isn't just about dealing with past unfairness, but about building stronger economies and communities,” she said.
Chung will be celebrating the big day with her teams at her two companies, Spring Plans and Admin Slayer, which she describes as, “pretty frankly feminist organizations” that are full of inspiring women.
“I am very lucky to have the teams that I do... We have women in their 50s who built new careers around ownership in a startup. We have women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s taking on powerful leadership roles. We have primary caregivers and primary breadwinners. We have women taking online coding courses, earning finance designations, and building technologically powerful teams”.
“I'm proud to say that every single woman in my work place is a force to be reckoned with”.
Chung told Wealth Professional that the world of finance and wealth management is changing thanks to large organizations like BMO, Mackenzie, Raymond James, and others who are going out of their way to create pathways for women.
“They're not stupid - the largest group of wealthy folks in the next few decades will be women and those women often want to work with organizations that recognize and support women,” said Chung.
Chung believes that changes are also a result of smaller women-owned and led organizations like Spring Plans, Money Coaches Canada, as well as nonprofit groups like Women in Capital Markets, and the Association of Women in Finance.
“We're creating the world in our own image these days, and starting to be rewarded. It's an exciting time to be female in finance - we have outstanding opportunities to take advantage of and lead disruption in the industry”.
