Gretchen Garrigues, former CMO of First Data, has been appointed to oversee marketing and communications for the investment titan
Manulife has announced the appointment of Gretchen Garrigues as its new executive vice president and global chief marketing officer. Garrigues will be responsible for the company’s global marketing and communications, with an emphasis on global branding and global business growth supported by marketing strategies and customer experience.
In her new role, Garrigues is a member of the executive committee, heads the Global Marketing Leadership Team, and reports to Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Paul Rooney.
We have embarked on a strategy that is far more customer-focused,” said Rooney. “Gretchen's deep understanding of marketing, particularly in the areas of brand development, digital and analytics, coupled with her strong financial acumen, make her a great fit to drive Manulife's customer-centric strategy.”
Garrigues joins Manulife following a recent stint at First Data as global CMO, where she led marketing efforts to deliver on the company’s 2015 IPO as well as strengthening its brand, raising demand for its products, and supporting sales by using digital tools to drive revenue.
She also has an extensive background in financial services and leadership skills, which were developed over a 16-year career at GE Capital’s Paris office, where she held marketing leadership positions that cover a wide variety of financial products and services, running the gamut from consumer finance to private equity and equipment financing, just to name a few.
Before joining GE Capital, Garrigues was a Foreign Trade Officer for the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service based in Paris, where her dual fluency in French and English served her well. Her appointment to Manulife started effective August 8.
