OSC bolsters investor protection with new special advisor

The Ontario Securities Commission has named an industry veteran to a new role it says will improve outcomes for investors and participants in the capital markets.

In a statement, the OSC announced Craig Hayman as its new Special Advisor on issues related to the regulation and oversight of registered firms and individuals.

"Craig brings a wealth of experience and a valuable perspective to this important new role," OSC CEO Grant Vingoe said in a statement.

In his new role, Hayman will support the OSC with expert advice on the development of critical investor protection initiatives to improve registrant-client interactions and bolster transparency for investors.

A CFA Charterholder, Hayman’s professional record covers over three decades of financial services and leadership experience.

He spent 17 years at Edward Jones Investments Canada, where he worked as an investment advisor and senior leader until his retirement in 2016. He was a retired partner from January 2017 until April 2017.

During his tenure, he took on numerous duties and headed several initiatives, including leading the Products, Services, and Marketing Division; taking responsibility for Financial Advisor Recruiting, Training and Development; and having overall leadership of all 700 branches in Canada.

Earlier in his career, he held several roles across the pension administration and investment space with several large institutions, including Franklin Templeton Investments and JP Morgan Asset Management.

He also served as a part-time commissioner and board member with the OSC from 2019 until March 2022.

"We plan to leverage his high level of expertise and intimate industry knowledge as we work to achieve better outcomes for investors and all capital market participants," Vingoe said.
