Head of Canada
Alternative Investment Management Association
It seemed like 2018 was the year of alternative investments. One of the leading organizations when it comes to education, advocacy and research on alternatives is the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA). Claire Van Wyk-Allan took over as the Head of Canada for the AIMA in 2018 and has helped in the initiatives surrounding the implementation of NI 81-102 regulations on alternative mutual funds for members, prospects, regulators and investors at both the institutional and retail level. Van Wyk-Allan has been instrumental in forwarding the conversation among the financial community when it comes to alternative investments. Now, with the introduction of the new regulations, Van Wyk-Allan is optimistic that liquid alternative will continue to grow and find places in more portfolios. “We are seeing a lot of boutique managers, traditionally operating in the private space, offering the product. They are launching prospectus-based products, with these constraints to offer more options to more clients.”
