iA Clarington partners with top fixed-income specialist, deepens Loomis Sayles collaboration

IA Clarington Investments Inc. (iA Clarington) has announced a new partnership with fixed-income specialist Dan Janis.

The firm has also expanded its collaboration with Loomis, Sayles & Company, L.P. (Loomis Sayles), a Boston-based investment management firm with over US$359bn in assets under management.

These changes affect three of iA Clarington's funds:

IA Clarington Core Plus Bond Fund

This fund is now sub-advised by Dan Janis’s new firm, Agile Investment Management, LLC. Janis, who has previously managed over US$30bn in assets, serves as Agile’s chief investment officer and leads the portfolio management team for the fund.

He is joined by portfolio managers Peter Azzinaro, Jonathan Birtwell, and Noelle Corum. The Core Plus Bond Fund will continue to focus on income generation and capital preservation.

It will primarily invest in short-duration investment grade corporate bonds, with up to 25 percent allocated to high yield securities.

Agile’s investment approach is based on three pillars: top-down sector selection using proprietary macroeconomic analysis, bottom-up security selection with interest rate and currency strategies, and continuous monitoring of portfolio holdings to ensure robust risk management.

Janis expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with a proven team at his new firm and working with iA Clarington, describing the current market environment as an opportunity for nimble fixed-income investors due to elevated interest rates and heightened volatility.

IA Clarington Floating Rate Income Fund and IA Clarington US Dollar Floating Rate Income Fund

Both funds are now sub-advised by Loomis Sayles, with Michael Klawitter and Heather Young serving as co-lead portfolio managers.

These funds will remain focused on generating attractive monthly income by primarily investing in floating rate loans.

Loomis Sayles brings its extensive expertise in fixed-income management, using a disciplined approach that includes fundamental credit analysis, interest rate and credit cycle assessment, and a focus on generating contractual returns rather than capital gains.

Catherine Milum, president, and CEO of iA Clarington, emphasized the firm’s dedication to forming enduring partnerships with top-tier portfolio managers.

She praised Janis for his three decades of helping investors meet their goals and recognized Loomis Sayles' century-long reputation for excellence.

Kos Lazaridis, senior vice-president, chief product officer and head of Strategy at iA Clarington, further added that these changes align with the firm’s focus on providing deep expertise and global opportunities in fixed-income investments.

He also mentioned that iA Clarington will soon launch a new global fixed-income fund, sub-advised by the Agile team.

The investment objectives for all three funds remain unchanged following the transition, and Wellington Square is no longer the sub-advisor.
