Firm readies for continued parabolic growth as it plans new advisor-focused role

Leadership shakeup at Wellington-Altus with key exec departing

Wellington-Altus Financial, the parent company to Wellington-Altus Private Wealth, has announced a slew of upcoming changes among its leadership ranks as it seeks to maintain its geometric growth trajectory.

The firm said Wellington-Altus Private Wealth President Jordy Chilcott has announced his personal decision to depart from the firm.

After serving as president at Sun Life Global Investments, Chilcott joined Wellington-Altus Private Wealth as its EVP, Wealth Strategy and Enablement in 2020.

“It really seems time right now for the technology-driven independent firms,” Chilcott told Wealth Professional at the time. “The top 5-10% of advisors seem to be feeling disenfranchised and disempowered. It’s a powerful group and they are looking to partner with people and platforms that enable them to do their job to the level of their expectation and their clients’ expectation.”

Since then, he’s played a key role in the business’s growth from $10 billion to more than $25 billion in AUA.

“We want to thank Jordy for his significant contributions and wish him all the best as he returns to his asset management roots in the next chapter of his career,” Shaun Hauser, Wellington-Altus Financial founder and CEO, said in a statement today.

“While I am moving on from the brokerage side of the business, I continue to believe in the immense potential ahead for Wellington-Altus and the opportunities for the independent space in Canada,” Chilcott said today. “I'm proud to have contributed to the remarkable achievements of the firm.”

Wellington-Altus says it is looking to create an elevated advisor experience offering, which includes plans to introduce a chief experience officer (CXO) who would report to the CEO. The firm is actively recruiting for the position, which would be focused on delivering best-in-class advisor engagement.

“Since the firm's genesis in 2017, we've been laser-focused on providing advisors with unparalleled support and the freedom to do what's right for their clients through an agile approach, led by the best in the business,” Hauser said. "The addition of a CXO will complement this next phase of our phenomenal journey.”

The company has also announced other key executive realignments:

  • Dennis Stewner, currently EVP, COO, and chief financial officer, will be appointed president of both Wellington-Altus Private Wealth and Wellington-Altus Insurance;
  • Frank Laferriere, who recently joined Wellington-Altus as SVP, chief digital and technology officer, will take on dual roles as EVP, Digital Strategy & Compliance and president, Wellington-Altus USA.
