My drug use benefits investors, says Elon Musk

Elon Musk, the visionary behind Tesla Inc. and SpaceX, has publicly disclosed that he has a prescription for ketamine, asserting that its use is in the best interest of his investors.

This revelation came during an interview with former CNN anchor Don Lemon, which was streamed on YouTube and reported by the Financial Post.

Musk emphasized the importance of execution for Wall Street and suggested that anything contributing to his success, including his ketamine use, should continue to benefit Tesla's performance and investor interests.

Musk takes ketamine periodically under prescription to manage what he describes as “chemical tides,” which lead to symptoms like depression.

Ketamine, recognized for its pain-relieving and antidepressant properties, can act as a sedative in higher doses and is known for its potential to cause hallucinations. The United States Drug Enforcement Administration also notes the risks of overdose, which can result in unconsciousness and dangerously slowed breathing.

The Wall Street Journal reported concerns among executives at Musk's companies over his recreational drug use.

However, Musk defended his actions, highlighting on his social media platform X that he has not failed any drug tests. Given their apparent success, he implied that his current practices should be maintained.

The use of ketamine for treatment involves medical supervision, either through infusion or as a nasal spray called Spravato for treatment-resistant depression. Musk did not elaborate on the specifics of his ketamine prescription during the interview.

Following the interview, a partnership between Musk's social media company, X, and Don Lemon was canceled. On the Pivot podcast, Lemon mentioned that Musk was dissatisfied with the line of questioning, particularly regarding his use of ketamine.
