Three senior wealth advisors will add their significant industry experience to their new firm
Nicola Wealth has boosted its growing wealth advisory business with the hire of a trio of advisors from Gluskin Sheff.
Claire Blessing, Derrick Abraham, and Ori Mandowsky will join the Toronto firm as senior wealth advisors in September and David Sung, president at Nicola Wealth, says that being able to hire advisors with their calibre in a competitive recruiting environment is testament to his firm’s results and reputation.
"We are thrilled to welcome Claire, Derrick and Ori to our Nicola Wealth team, joining together from Gluskin Sheff where they had an exceptional reputation and loyal clients,” he said. “They bring years of experience as wealth advisors working with HNW and UHNW private clients and their dedication to an elevated and bespoke client experience truly aligns with ours."
The Nicola Wealth team has grown over the past decade to more than 80 employees and advisors in its Toronto advisory business and around 500 across all its locations which also includes Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, Calgary, and Vaughan. The firm manages approximately $14 billion in assets under management for clients across Canada.
Why switch?
Asked about the decision to switch firms, Ori Mandowsky explained that he was attracted to the firm’s corporate culture and its investing platform.
"Nicola Wealth's pension-style approach to investing offers my clients access to a broad spectrum of assets, which some have not been exposed to before.”
John Nicola, the firm’s founder, was recently awarded The FP Canada Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Financial Planning Industry at the Wealth Professional Awards.
After winning he suggested he won’t be stepping back from his eponymous wealth management firm anytime soon.
“I got to the point in my life many years ago that I don’t think of retirement in any practical sense of the word. So, my retirement will probably be driven by health-related issues if they come up in the future, which is something beyond my control,” he told Wealth Professional.
