Visa Canada welcomes new leader

Visa has officially named Michiel Wielhouwer as the new president and country manager for Visa Canada, succeeding Stacey Madge, who held the position for the last seven years, as announced on Globe Newswire.

Wielhouwer, who previously led Visa's operations in France, Belgium, and Luxembourg, steps into his new role amid Visa Canada's ongoing growth and the implementation of innovative payment solutions.

Expressing his enthusiasm for his new position, Wielhouwer shared, “I am honoured to step into the role of President and Country Manager of Visa Canada and plan to use my experience from my time in Europe to add value to our partners and the Visa business in this country.”

He is committed to enhancing Visa Canada's operations by leveraging his extensive experience and fostering strong partnerships across the country.

Wielhouwer, a seasoned professional with 22 years at Visa across five markets, brings a wealth of financial services expertise and leadership to the Canadian team. His international background and multilingual capabilities are poised to complement Canada's diverse and bilingual market.

Reflecting on her tenure, Stacey Madge highlighted the achievements under her leadership, including significant growth, new client acquisitions, fintech partnerships, and innovations in payment processing.

Madge will now focus on her contributions to board, community, and foundation work.

Kim Lawrence, Visa’s Regional President for North America, commended Madge's leadership, and contributions to Visa's success in Canada, expressing confidence in Wielhouwer's ability to lead the Canadian operations.

“[Wielhouwer] is a fantastic addition to our North American team, and I am confident that our Canadian clients and Visa team will continue to thrive under his leadership,” Lawrence stated, looking forward to the continued success and innovation of Visa Canada under Wielhouwer’s direction.
