The ability of people and businesses to operate from almost anywhere in the world has never been stronger thanks to technology.
But if a high-net-worth individual, entrepreneur, professional, or business wants to find a new location there are several factors to consider among the many cities that are keen to attract them.
Residence-by-investment programs are designed to tempt talented people and strong businesses but, as with most things, some are better than others.
"Residence-by-investment programs provide a channel for building a migration portfolio of multiple complementary residence and citizenship options to hedge against volatility and take advantage of new opportunities in the pandemic world order,” explained Dr. Juerg Steffen, CEO of residence and planning specialists Henley & Partners.
The firm has published rankings for investment migration programs that considers elements such as lifestyle, tax, education, real estate, healthcare, security, infrastructure, and stability, as well as Covid safety and the relevant investment migration program.
The top five are:
- London
- New York
- Sydney
- Singapore
- Zurich
These five cities all score highest in security, infrastructure, and stability, with Sydney taking the number one spot overall for security.
Top 10 for Toronto
Toronto is next in the list at number 6 and Rome, Dublin, Dubai, and Lisbon complete the top 10 among the leading 25 cities around the world that offer investment migration opportunities.
"Along with seeking out new domicile options for their families, more and more investors are considering relocating their businesses,” said Dominic Volek, group head of private clients at Henley & Partners. “This trend had begun pre-pandemic, but it is accelerating. All 25 cities are proactively welcoming foreign investors, and while some are clearly leading the pack, each has its strengths and particular appeal."
